قد يؤدي نقص النحاس إلى: • فقر الدم: النحاس ضروري لإنتاج خلايا الدم الحمراء. • زيادة حالات التهاب المشاش في الخيول الصغيرة. • بهتان لون الفرو وضعف الحوافر، خاصةً عند إخراج الخيول إلى المراعي في فصل الربيع. • ضعف الخصوبة: النحاس ضروري لنشاط الإنزيمات وتحسين التكاثر.
